LX LoRa Connect, protecting a decommissioned site in the North-West

A decommissioned chemical plant, with a four-mile perimeter, required secure protection without the need for manned guarding. An ideal situation for the GJD LX LoRa Connect.

CHALLENGES

The site, based in the Northwest of England, was a factory and warehouse, with a perimeter of four miles. The site was to be monitored remotely, meaning that a positive response to an alert was required, with unwanted alarms needing to be minimised. The brief was to keep the site undisturbed with no power or data cabling requirement and at a feasible price point.

This site was ideal for the GJD LX LoRa Connect system, a long-range wireless technology that can cover distances of up to 10km. The LX Gateway is the central command hub of GJD’s LX LoRa Connect system. It is a wireless receiver and CPU which can connect up to 500 devices across its network, without the need for expensive data cables and logistical challenges.

Professional security installers can utilise the LX Gateway’s relay output and alarm inputs, providing reliable and customised solutions for specific project requirements. It provides easy and direct integration with IP to VMS, enabling PTZ control, automatic video recording, voice enunciation and object positioning.

BENEFITS

In the case of the chemical plant, GJD’s LoRa motion detectors were positioned around the site perimeter alongside strategically placed CCTV cameras. The LoRa system integrates with the

on-site Network Video Recorder (NVR), which in turn sends the alerts to the connected Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). These alerts enabled the on-site Pan-Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) and fixed cameras to focus on the detection point. To complete the multi-layered protection, GJD hybrid illuminators, which have a combination of infra-red and white light LEDs, were placed around the site.

This complete system, which took three days to install, was cost-effective and gave a security system that allowed a member of the security team to be on-site within 10 minutes.
