Celebration and innovation were themes very much to the fore at the Insider’s annual Made in the North West Awards which took place at the Park Royal Hotel in Warrington on February 27th. Manufacturing is pivotal to the North West’s economy and the region’s manufacturers remain amongst the most innovative and dynamic in the world. The North West boasts a hotbed of manufacturers and the night presented the perfect setting to both recognise and celebrate the region’s strengths.
The evening featured keynote addresses from EEF regional director Darrell Matthews and John Rogers, Managing Director of International Safety Products. Chris Maguire, editor of North West Business Insider, commented “Our economy has coughed and spluttered back into life and the medicine is manufacturing. The North West is leading the way when it comes to making things and the list of shortlisted and winning companies demonstrates we’re getting better at it and we’re exporting our products across the world”.
Attention then turned to the 2014 Made in the North West Awards. These prestigious and hotly contested awards saw companies and individuals rewarded for their outstanding achievement. There were eight awards in total and GJD Manufacturing Ltd was proudly shortlisted for two awards – Manufacturing Company of the Year and Exporter of the Year.
Industry leader GJD designs, manufactures and supplies professional external wired and wireless detector equipment as well as CCTV and lighting controllers utilised in the intruder surveillance industry.
Based in Heywood, just outside Manchester, GJD has been established now for 30 years and was acquired by its current owners in 2004. Managing Director, Mark Tibbenham has taken the business forward and seen the company grow into a multi‐million pound global market leading business. Questioned on the longevity of the company and their commitment to manufacturing Mark comments,
“Our strong and continuous growth pattern results from an ardent philosophy of producing consistently reliable equipment coupled with a dedication to after-sales support. By listening to, and working closely with our customers, we are able to continuously refine and evolve our products and quality systems”.
GJD has been growing their exports dramatically over the last five years and sees the establishment of a significant presence in S.E. Asia as the logical step in their long term plans to bring their range of products and services to the largest possible audience. In November last year GJD announced the launch of its Asia subsidiary, GJD Asia. This will be the central office of their operations serving China, Asean and Australasian regions. This move forms part of GJD’s overall strategic marketing plan to become a global supplier of high quality, state-of-the-art, value for money security systems and associated devices.
Asked about the awards, Mark Tibbenham, Managing Director at GJD comments “We were delighted to be shortlisted for not one but two prestigious awards. Our policy at GJD remains unchanged; we strive to provide a service which is constantly improving to meet or exceed the requirements of our customers. We will continue to listen to and build on, the existing relationships with all of our customers all over the world”
