GJD - a quarter century of dedication to detection
GJD Manufacturing is celebrating 25 years of minimising false alarms by designing, manufacturing and supplying professional exterior detection equipment and CCTV & lighting controllers. Its strong and continuous growth pattern results from an ardent philosophy of producing consistently reliable equipment coupled with a dedication to after-sales support.
GJD was started in 1983 and, back in these early days, the original Minipassive PIR detector was manufactured in a garage mainly using outworkers. The product proved to be popular in the market and GJD saw an increase in sales and in distribution channels. During the next five years the product range expanded and, in 1988, they moved to new premises in Bolton, employing six full-time staff and three outworkers.
By forging new paths in design and manufacturing technology, GJD were able to launch their Solitaire 2 Touch Control Expansion unit, earning their place as the market leader in security lighting. Further expansion was aided by investment in additional SMT machines and by introducing the Elite PIR range. It was around this time that the company started using Norbain SD to distribute its equipment, maximising the potential of its products in the market.
In 2004 Mark Tibbenham, managing director of GJD, bought the company, heralding an explosion of new products onto the market. In particular, the D-Tect range of external presence detectors has been recognised by a number of industry awards and company endorsements, further setting the company apart from its competitors.
Now based in Heywood, Lancashire, and employing 25 staff, GJD continue to lead the market through innovation and market knowledge. "The company has gone from strength to strength over the years," says Mr Tibbenham. "By recognising the changing needs of the market and using the latest technologies to meet those needs, GJD will continue to thrive and grow in the years to come."
